Be: A Silent Retreat
Be: A Silent Retreat
February 6-9, 2025
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Join us for a guided silent retreat designed to deepen your relationship with God through personal reflection and communal prayer. This retreat is built around A Litany of Penitence (Saint Augustine’s Prayer Book, p. 228), which will serve as a tool for self-examination and spiritual growth. Experience silence as a means to hear God more clearly, free from distractions. Through structured reflection, prayer, light meal prep duties, and personal time, you will explore your connection with God in a serene environment.
This retreat is for those seeking a quiet space to listen and reflect on their spiritual journey.
Retreat Schedule Coming Soon!
Reflection Process:
Throughout the retreat, you will be guided to reflect on A Litany of Penitence through a method similar to Lectio Divina. This process invites you to listen to God, examine your life, and engage in a deep, personal conversation with Him.
- Retreat Leader Meetings: Each participant will meet briefly with a retreat leader on Friday and Saturday to discuss their experience, questions, and prayer needs.
- Silent Meals: Meals will be shared in silence, with simple tasks (e.g., setting tables, meal prep) assigned to each participant.
- Silence & Devices: Silence will be observed throughout the retreat. Use of cell phones is limited to text messages and emergency calls in designated areas.
- Social Periods: On Friday and Saturday evenings, you may speak freely from 8–9 pm to share experiences, make calls, and socialize.
We understand that some clergy may need to leave early due to parish commitments. To accommodate this, a brief Eucharist service will be held on Saturday evening before dinner, after which clergy can depart. All retreat materials will be provided before you leave. Sunday will focus on sharing experiences and farewells, so leaving early will not impact your involvement in the core aspects of the retreat.
Retreat Leader: Mark Hoag
Inspired by the story of Noah, Mark embarked on a 30-year career in the veterinary industry, which sparked a deep desire to connect with the Creator. Though he was not raised in religion, Mark heard God’s call in his early 20s and has since integrated ascetic and monastic practices with his Christian faith. He is now dedicated to guiding others on their spiritual paths, sharing insights from his own journey. Mark is married with stepchildren, and he and his wife are committed to a future of service and devotion.
This retreat will be organized by the Albany Blooms Thriving Parish Initiative
